Beth's 4th birthday
Today we celebrated Beth's 4th birthday. Her actual birthday is Wednesday, October 22, but we're so busy that particular day (and the rest of the week), we figured it would be better to have her party and her little friends over this morning.
The picture above shows Beau Kuttenkuler playing "pin the kiss on the frog" (her party had a princess theme...).
They also spent time decorating cookie "wands" (above) and fighting a dragon by popping its bubbles with glow-stick "swords".
Lil' Stephen was too small to participate in the games, but once he got used to strangers, he started have at least some fun...

Beth was quite the little guest of honor, and glowed with all the attention paid to her. Below, she is getting ready to blow out her candles:

We had her birthday party in the late morning to make sure our afternoon was free for the UAM homecoming football game. We ate lunch at home and then arrived at the stadium area for a little bit of small-scale tailgating. Here, the kids watch the "parade of champions" they do before each home game (the band and flag squads are leading the football team along the road to the stadium):

They also had a number of play activities. Here, Kenny is getting ready to ride a very tame mechanical bull:

We didn't end up watching much of the game--Stephen was tired, fitful, and hard to manage in the elevated bleachers we were sitting in, and Beth was tired and distracted by wanting popcorn. Kenny was into watching the game, but we figured we'd better head home for the sake of the younger kids.
Tonight, we'll watch a movie before (hopefully) turning in early. We all seem to have a little crud that is costing us sleep and patience, so maybe we can catch up this evening. Or maybe not... Last night, Kenny pointedly told us he planned to sleep in real late today because he didn't have to get up for school. Sooooo, as I rocked Stephen this morning, and as Beth napped in the chair next to us, out pads Kenny--at almost exactly 6:30 a.m., the time he'd be getting up for school!
