Kenny's 6th birthday

Sorry for the lack of postings, but we've been busy and haven't really been taking much for pictures...

Time for a quick update. This last Tuesday ushered in the "beginning" of the Christmas season in Monticello with the annual Christmas parade and lighting of the Christmas tree on the square downtown. Before the parade, we went to one of the banks downtown so the kids could see "Santa":

Note: Stephen was definitely overdressed on this warm November night... It was dark by the time of the parade, so we didn't get any pictures of it--Kenny was most impressed by the monster truck hauling a boat on a jacked-up trailer...

On Friday, after I returned from a couple days in Hot Springs for a meeting, we had Kenny's 6th birthday party. Kenny and Beth just relished the company:

Kenny's birthday went off as well as could be anticipated with a dozen or so screaming kids. The next day (Saturday) I went to meet some people in Mississippi to look at some more big cypress trees:

The cypress pictured above is certainly over 500 years old, and may actually be more than 1,000 years old, surviving the logging of last century only because it was too hollow and twisty to have good timber value. It is now protected in a wildlife management area.

Today we're just catching up on chores before starting full-swing into the holiday season events...

Late fall activities

Well, I better get this blog post out before too long--hard to believe it is already December and the holiday season is upon us!  The picture above is from a visit earlier this fall by Beth--and her introduction to our new female tabby kitten "Charlie".  Charlie got her name from the neighbor boy who thought she was a he when this small stray kitten showed up in our neighborhood.  We believe someone dumped her when she was old enough to be on her own--she was definitely very friendly from the very beginning!  The neighbors "found" her first, but as they have cat allergies, were not going to take her in...Since our Bella had died earlier this year, we determined that we were going to wait until early 2024 to find a replacement cat...but as they say, you don't find cats, they find you...  So now we have Charlie!
