Last Friday, in addition to the Monticello Billies (the local high school football team) winning a state championship in their division, Bragg Family South took Kenny and a number of his friends to the local bowling alley for some serious pin action (can't you tell by the faces in the picture above?). Our local bowling alley offers a good deal for kids to have bowling birthday parties, including light-weight bowling balls easy for the kids to roll down the lane. Below, even
lil' Stephen got into bowling (at least for a while, and with a little help from Mom and Dad):
Kenny really gets into bowling, even though his technique needs some work, and his body English wasn't helping much:
We also had cake and ice cream and other treats. The kid on the right with the big smile is Kenny's friend Peyton McBride:
Peyton stayed the night at our house that night--we let Kenny have one friend over for a sleep-over on his birthday celebration. Here are some more friends of Kenny's:
On Tuesday night (yesterday), we went to an early Christmas party, an annual tradition for the local
archeological society chapter. Everybody brings a predetermined dish (or two or three) to share, and after this festive meal, we have a speaker on some archeology topic. This year's speaker, John
Connaway (the gentleman with the beard in the picture below) came to speak on
fishweirs.
Fishweirs are structures in streams or tidal waters built to trap fish or funnel fish to a trap. Many cultures around the world have used them for thousands of years, including both prehistoric Indians here in America as well as many non-Indians (well into the 20
th Century). Below is a picture of Hope get ready to supervise our kids eating their festive suppers:

It was an interesting talk on a topic I knew almost nothing on, and the food was fantastic, once again. Below is a picture of a contented and full Dr.

Speaking of Christmas, we just finished printing up the Christmas letter, and will shortly have our cards out into the mail. Hard to believe we'll be headed up north late next week already, and hopefully y'all will keep some of that fresh snow that just fell around so the kids can go sledding!
