As you can see in the picture above, we've continued to get considerable rainfall this month. This picture is at the
Isgrig archeological site I've been working at, and each of those square depressions are excavation units we've been working (some more than others). The picture below is of a potsherd I found the other weekend, notable because of the handle on the rim (by my index finger). This is an unusual attribute to the pottery around here, making this an interesting find...
My
diggin' isn't the only big even--Kenny FINALLY lost his final front tooth, after resisting our attempts to pull it for weeks. Towards the end, it was dangling by a thread, and Kenny was not eating properly because it was uncomfortable to eat. Finally, one morning in the guise of some play wrestling, I pinned him to the couch, and Hope raced in to "tickle" him, only to snatch that loose tooth out of his mouth!
Kenny sure seems happier now that it's out, but you still can't talk into pulling his loose teeth out... Beth, of course, had the biggest "news"--she turned 5 years old last Thursday! Here's Beth with her stack of gifts from us and other family:
She also had a party on Friday, which had a number of her little friends over for games, gifts, candy, and Hope in a funny, pointed hat:
As with many 5 year
olds, she was a bit embarrassed about being the center of attention during the singing of happy birthday:
but by the time for the
Spongebob pinata, she was past that...
Yesterday, we went back up to Little Rock so I could help dig at the
Isgrig site again. It was a very productive day, and I found a number of
sherds, deer bones, and other artifacts, including this very nice
Sequoyah arrow point:
Towards the end of the day, Hope and the kids joined us out at the site (they had been shopping all day). I was trying to finish excavating part of a unit, so Hope and Kenny helped screen some of the dirt:

archeologist in charge of this excavation, helping them. Kenny's really been looking forward to helping on these digs, so we've decided to start easing him into it. There are things we obviously can't let him do yet because he doesn't know enough, but pushing dirt through a screen and putting anything that doesn't fall through the 1/4 inch mesh into an artifact bag is easy enough to do. He really wants to help dig:
but right now he has to be satisfied with watching. Speaking of digging, the picture below is of Hope

The picture above shows her with one of her two helpers: Draco was the only one apparent in this photo, but Bella was also in the bathroom as well. The other day Hope noticed water under some of the tiles in the master bathroom, and the water appears to have been leaking from a crack in the toilet bowl. We had wanted to replace that toilet anyhow, so she's pulled the tiles and toilet out, and we bought new tiles and a toilet yesterday. Hopefully, by the end of the week, we'll have a functional bathroom again.

I can't blame Kenny for wanting to help you dig those funky square holes! What kid wouldn't want to dig a hole like that??
