Out of the summer, into the fall (sort of)...
I see that it has been a couple months since my last blog, so I better get my act together, and get a few more pictures and stories out there...Beth is pictured above with one of the little girls we go to church with who just adores Beth (and vice versa). We have stayed extra busy since the last blog post (when Beth, Stephen and I had gone out to Montana in July). I just haven't been as diligent in reporting on our activities...
Since Montana, we've:
Kept the world at bay by playing some new board games (well, at least Hope and the kids have)...
Kenny's gone on several Scout camping trips...
Beth and the cats have taken MULTIPLE naps...
We managed to catch a minor league baseball game in Little Rock...
We took advantage of the long Labor Day holiday weekend to visit the Shiloh Civil War battlefield again...
And on that same long weekend, when we weren't at our campsite we went to the Memphis (Tennessee) Zoo and the IKEA in that city...
I made a week-long business trip to the Carolinas, including seeing some old-growth cypress and hardwood swamps...
And this intriguing sculpture in the Atlanta airport...
Can't forget about football games, either... Kenny plays in the high school marching band, and Beth plays in the junior high marching band. Which means we often get to one or two games per week...
Stephen and his fellow scouts (below) marched in a parade to promote scouting:
Hope, as President of the Arkansas Archeological Society, was the master of ceremonies for the annual meeting, which we all attended:
Kenny and toured the Arkansas Archeological Survey's collections in Fayetteville while we were there--it was amazing to see so many examples of the prehistoric pottery we've excavated in small, broken pieces over the years...Below are just a few of the MANY examples they had on display:
and here is an example of one of the "headpots" that are rather unique to northeastern Arkansas:
We have done loads more than this brief encapsulation, but now I have to go out and see if I can't figure out why my lawnmower isn't working right... For us, even at the end of September, summer has yet to loosen its grip, and mowing is still an expectation...
