Sorry we haven't updated this blog as of late, but we're still recovering from the big western trip...and now we're preparing to leave on another!! We no sooner get used to Monticello living again, and now we're heading up north. The top picture shows the beginning stage of a trailer tear-down that we started after we returned from our western trip. On this northern trip, we're planning on doing some camping, and since we're not taking the truck, we needed someplace for all our camping gear. The solution: we torn apart then rebuilt the small wooden trailer we've had for years (the original wood had largely rotted away). Below is a picture of Hope contributing some painting effort to the trailer base:

I'll have more on the trailer later... At some point during the first full week we were back, Stephen managed to bonk his head near his left eye on something solid, giving him a nasty shiner:

(That's spaghetti sauce on his face, not blood!). I say at some point, because we didn't see him do it, and he didn't really fuss... This shiner got good and swollen the first day, then a nasty black and blue, but has largely disappeared. We also snuck in a quick trip to the Little Rock Zoo on a day that felt so hot even the African warthogs looked like they were suffering:

But then again, how can you tell if they're happy? The kids were happy, though, as they got to take a short train ride at the zoo:

I was just glad it was a quick trip, because it was HOT out... Did I mention how HOT it has been--we're looking forward to the cool
Northwoods. That brings me back to the trailer--here it is in its largely finished form:

Certainly nothing impressive, and few things fit like they should, but we're hoping its road-worthy and water-tight (and I hope we don't have to find out about the water part!). We look forward to seeing many of you in the next couple weeks. Till then...
